Peter James Stanton was born on December 8, 1955, at St. Joseph's Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota. He was the fifth child of James and Geralda Stanton. From 1955 to 1968, he lived in Mendota Heights, Minnesota, and attended Mendota Heights Elementary School and St. Peter's Catholic School.
In 1968, he moved with his family to Columbus, Ohio, where he attended Mifflin Junior High School, St. Thomas More Catholic School, and Bishop Hartley High School, graduating in 1974.
Peter received a Bachelor of Arts in Literature from The Ohio State University in 1978 and a Juris Doctor degree from St. Mary's University School of Law in San Antonio, Texas, in 1982 at the top of his class.
He established The Law Offices of Peter J. Stanton in 1991. A skilled litigator, Peter was highly respected among his peers and garnered a great deal of success for his clients. Peter served as a Director of the San Antonio Trial Lawyers Association and was a member of the San Antonio Bar Association, the Texas Civil Trial Law Commission, and the State Bar of Texas.
Peter was a member of the St. Mark's Episcopal Church choir in San Antonio for more than 30 years.
He was predeceased by his parents, James and Geralda Stanton, and by his youngest sister, Kristin Jones.
He is survived by Judith Stanton; his son Peter Stanton of Reno, Nevada; son Noah River Stanton (Laura River) and his children Josephine and Callan of Denver, Colorado; and stepdaughter Elizabeth Hazlett (Jed) and her son Everett of Austin, Texas; his siblings and their spouses Paula Bokros, Leah Harvey (Steve Rosholt), Nora Gibson (Joel), Mark Stanton, Jacob Stanton (Jocelyn), Anthony Stanton, and Lewis Jones; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
The family would like to thank the nurses & staff of Heart to Heart Hospice of San Marcos, Texas for their care and compassion.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 20th, at 10 a.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in San Antonio.
