Peter Jacob Stender, bid farewell to the world on December 19, 2023, in Roy, Utah. Born on April 22, 1941, in Chicago, Illinois, Pete's life was one filled with love, laughter, and connections.
Described as a man with a contagious smile, big blue eyes, and a heart of kindness, Pete will be remembered for his loving and jovial personality. He had a knack for storytelling and was always the life of the party, leaving behind cherished memories in the hearts of all who knew him. Growing up, Pete spent his summers riding horses, bailing hay, and tending to the family’s ranch in the Tarryall Valley outside of Lake George, CO.
Following his passion for the environment, Pete earned his bachelor's degree from Colorado State University, which led him to pursue a career as a Hydrologist with the U.S. Forest Service, where his work made a lasting impact on his community and beyond.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Pete found immense pride in his family and home. His proudest achievements were his daughter and showcasing his expertise as a Master Gardener through his beautifully maintained yard and garden. Pete’s dedication to his family extended beyond blood relations as he touched the lives of many with his warmth and generosity. Pete lost his parents when young but learned the power of generosity and love when he was adopted by Clara and Kenneth Gloss and their whole family. He gave back that love and unconditional generosity throughout his life and has inspired countless others to do so themselves.
Away from work, Pete found joy in cycling - embarking on adventurous rides from Ogden, UT to Denver CO - and hitting the slopes for some skiing escapades. His zest for life and adventurous spirit inspired those around him to embrace every moment with enthusiasm.
Pete is preceded in death by his brothers Larry Gloss, Freddy Gloss, Kenny Gloss; parents Dr. Kenneth Gloss and Clara Gloss; and biological mother Herta Stender. He is survived by his beloved wife Kathy M. Stender; daughter Jackie Stender Ewer (Bill); grandchildren Jocelyn Ewer and Bird Arley; sister Kathy Anderson; six nieces and nephews, Brad Anderson, Pat Anderson, Kristina VanWyk, Jayme Derbyshire Carolan, Alex Glossenberg, Carolyn White; and a host of relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
A "Celebration of Life" service will be held on June 21, 2024, starting at 11:00 AM at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary in Ogden, Utah. A luncheon will follow at the same location.
May Peter Jacob Stender's legacy live on through the memories he created and the lives he touched during his time on earth.
