Peter L. Wyro, age 82, of Alice, Texas, passed away on January 20, 2026. Peter was born on January 15, 1944, in Kingsville, Texas, to Peter H. Wyro and Mary Louise Wyro. He spent his life rooted in South Texas, where he built a home, served his country with distinction, and devoted himself wholeheartedly to family, faith, and service. Peter proudly served in the United States military for 25 years. During his service, he served in the Vietnam War as a Sergeant Officer and later worked for the Pentagon as a liaison following the war. His military career took him around the world, including extended periods living in Germany and Italy. Throughout his service, Peter earned numerous commendations and awards, reflecting his leadership, dedication, and commitment to excellence. He retired with the honored rank of Lieutenant Colonel. His life's work was guided by a deep commitment to family, faith, and nonprofit service, including fundraising efforts for organizations such as the American Red Cross. Following his military retirement, Peter worked in journalism and later dedicated many years to his alma mater, Texas A&M University–Kingsville, where he served as Foundation Executive Director, continuing his lifelong mission of leadership and service. Peter was also well known for his musical talent and his faithful service as Music Minister at West Main Baptist Church, a role he held with dedication for many years. He will be fondly remembered for his loud, boisterous laugh, his tireless work ethic, and for being an extremely hard-working man who devoted his life to supporting and providing for his family. Peter was preceded in death by his wife of 25 years, Mary Jane Wyro; his younger sister, Connie Felder; and his parents.

He is survived by his sister, Wanda Johnson of San Antonio, Tx, his stepchildren, Martin (Angela) Perry, Sr. and Molly Vickers; his grandchildren, Brandy Perry, Morgan (Andy) Hernandez, Martin (Amanda) Perry, Jr., Erin Vickers, Ashley Perry, and Harley (Taylor) Vickers; as well as numerous great-grandchildren.

Services will be held on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at West Main Baptist Church in Alice, Texas. Public viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m., with services to follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place afterward at Alice Cemetery with full military honors and flag presentation. Peter will be remembered for his unwavering faith, distinguished military service, generous heart, love of music, and deep devotion to his family. His legacy of leadership, service, and love will live on through all who were blessed to know him.
