A great leader for the Navajo Nation, he set the pattern for others that came after him. Sincere sympathies to the Zah family, may help you to endure your time of loss.

I met Pete in 1967 working as a VISTA on the Navajo and Gila River Reservations. He participated in the VISTA training program at ASU a then I work with him for a while on the reservation. I remember Pete as a determined activist for Indian affairs, a thoughtful and effective teacher and a very kind person. I lived next to Pete and Ros and remember them as a close and loving family. Somewhere I have a picture of Pete with his daughter at about six years old asleep in his arms and that´s how I remember him above all as a good father and husband; though his accomplishments as an activist and leader were extraordinary.

While I was at Arizona State University as Director of Minority Engineering Program (MEP), Peterson Zah was serving as Advisory to the ASU President. Peterson was always so generous with his time to provide guidance. He once met me at Window Rock to host a discussion with Navajo leadership in support of education. He invited my husband and I to visit his home sharing many tribal artifacts, stories of his incredible career and pride of his family and culture. It was all done in the most humble manner. I realized I was in the presence of a great leader. I feel blessed that I had the honor to work with this generous, dedicated person of the Native People . May you RIP
