Petra Cegueda Obituary

March 13, 1924 – November 26, 2025
With profound love and gratitude, the family of Petra F. Cegueda announces her peaceful passing on November 26, 2025, at the remarkable age of 101. Petra lived a long, faith-filled, and generous life-one marked by devotion to her family, strength in every season, and a spirit that brought warmth to all who knew her.
Petra is preceded in death and lovingly reunited in eternal rest with her husband, Jose Cegueda Sr., her son Eliseo Cegueda, and many cherished family members who have gone before her. We take comfort in knowing she is rejoicing in their company once again.
She leaves behind a legacy carried on by her children:
Irene (Antonio) Sarmiento Jr., Jose (Lucila) Cegueda Jr., and Rudy Cegueda.
Petra was blessed with grandchildren who brought her immense joy:
Christina Sarmiento (Lara), Erica Sarmiento, Anthony (Samantha) Sarmiento, Amanda Sarmiento, and Jose (Maria) Cegueda III., Jessica (Salvador) Cegueda, Luis Cegueda, Rudy Cegueda Jr., and Carlos Cegueda.
Her love continues through her great-grandchildren:
Gabriel, Jonathon, Jesiah, Achsah, Derek, Brandon, and Francesca, each of whom she adored.
Throughout her long life, Petra especially cherished her birthday celebrations. Surrounded by family, she delighted in every joyful gathering, and her heart was always moved by the mariachis who would come to serenade her, moments that brought her pure happiness and filled her home with music and love. In honor of her 100th birthday, Petra was proudly inducted into the City of Laredo Mayor's Century Club, a distinction that celebrated her remarkable longevity and the life she so beautifully lived.
Petra's family will forever cherish the memories of her love, her stories, her wisdom, and her unwavering dedication to those she held dear. Though she will be deeply missed, her spirit shines on in the generations she nurtured and inspired.
The family would like to give special thanks to nurse Nydia from Healing Hands Home Health Care, as well as Laredo Quality Home Health and Hospice Specialty Inc., for their exceptional care and compassion.
The family will be receiving guests on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at Fred Dickey Funeral & Cremation Services from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm. Funeral Services will be on Friday, December 5, 2025, from the funeral home to San Luis Rey Church. Funeral mass will begin at 10:30 am. Burial will follow at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
