We saw the Pogues a few times in South Wales, and have to say that Phil Chevron just made the group special. Our parents came here in the 40s from Ireland. I know 'Thousands are Sailing' was written as much about the Irish having to leave because of the famine and the hardships endured by so many at that time. For so many generations of Irish people who left Ireland in the 30s and 40s for mainly enonomic reasons the song resonates for them and their families. Now we have lost a fantastic musician, though one whose words will long remain, my deepest regards and prayers to Phil's family, may you rest in peace.

I am sorry for your loss. Find solace in the fact that our Heavenly Father knows what you are going through. He is “greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.” (1 John 3:20) Continue to rely on Him for strength during this difficult time.

Phil, you were a true gentleman and the world is a sadder place without you. Thank you for the memories, mate. I'm so glad my words once made you laugh, and cry. See you in heaven.

Thanks Phil for all the awesome tunes and a rollicking, boisterous, sweaty, completely out-of-control time at the concerts! You, and the rest of the Pogues, will always be a part of me...godspeed on your next adventure! Now you can join the thousands that are sailing! Next time I raise a glass, it'll be a toast to you...

Our deepest sympathy to the family and close friends of Phil Chevron. The world is in great debt to him for his contributions to the music genre; he will be missed by many. We pray that you find comfort in knowing that death is like sleep in that the dead are unconscious and can no longer feel pain and suffering. May God remember him as one of his faithful children.

May the God of all comfort be with you during this difficult time in your life. We all yearn for better conditions. It's refreshing to know that God's word speaks of a time when all sorrows will be gone and that mankind will live on beautiful surroundings with nothing to fear.-Isaiah 65:17,21-24.
