Phil Lucco died on December 9th, surrounded by his loved ones. It was a peaceful end to a remarkable life.
Phil was born in Akron in 1925, son of Frank and Ethel Lucco. He attended Garfield High School and the University of Akron before fighting for his country in Germany in World War II. Days before leaving for the war, he married Eleanor Davis, the love of his life with whom he enjoyed a 70-year marriage before Eleanor's death in 2014.
When he returned from the war, he and Eleanor added Diana and Mark to their family, who subsequently began their own families, blessing Phil and Eleanor with five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
In 1945, Phil joined his father in the family business, the Frank Lucco Company, where he worked for 78 years, right up until just weeks before his death. He was well known in the Northeast Ohio business community as a valued partner for hundreds of customers. He was equally admired for his many non-work activities. These included being a founding member of The Church in Silver Lake, Silver Lake and Sharon country clubs, and an active member of the Masons, the Royal Order of Jesters, Gyro, and the Shriners.
Phil brought a smile to the faces of everyone he knew. In recent years, often in the company of his dear friend Carol Sonneberger, he would describe himself as "the oldest luckiest guy in the world." He was generous to a fault, highly ethical in business and on the golf course, and he loved his family with all his heart. He will be sadly missed, always celebrated, and never forgotten.
There will be no calling hours. A private service will be held for family on Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to The Church in Silver Lake, 2951 Kent Rd., Silver Lake, Ohio 44224 or to a charity of your choice.
