Philip Eastman, 85, of Rochester, MN, died Wednesday, February 11, 2026 at South Grove Lodge Senior Living in Austin, MN.Philip was born on July 16, 1940 in Dodge Center, MN to Hall and Harriet (Salmon) Eastman. He graduated from Dodge Center High School in 1958 and served in the United States Marine Corps from 1958-1961. Philip graduated from Mankato State College in 1966 with a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Political Science and History. While at Mankato State Philip met and married Gayle Samuelson and the couple lived in Rochester. They were married for 48 years until her passing in 2013.

Mr. Eastman worked for the State of Minnesota for more than 35 years as a supervisor in the Department of Economic Security until his retirement in 2005. Philip enjoyed the outdoors, especially walking in the woods and being on or near the waters of the Mississippi River. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed planning over the winter what vegetables and flowers to plant as well as caring for and harvesting throughout the summer and fall. His interests in political science, history, and service continued throughout his life through his reading, spirited discussions with friends and family, and contributions to organizations committed to making the world a better place for all.

Survivors include his daughter Deborah Eastman, his grandchildren, Ariadne Skoufos (Jack Usher), Shane Eastman-Grossel and Zoe Eastman-Grossel, his sister Sheila Kahlert (Jerry), his brothers Gerald Eastman, Alan (Mary Lou) Eastman, and Robert Eastman, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gayle, his parents, and a brother, John Eastman.

Visitation will be held in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home on Sunday March 8, 2026 from 10:00-12:00 followed by a light lunch 12:00-2:00 at Macken.
