It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Philip Patrick Gauthier, affectionately known to many as "Phil" or "Papa" on Saturday, November 8, 2025. Phil was the devoted husband of the late Angela Gauthier and a cherished father, grandfather, and brother.
Born in Auburn, NY on December 12, 1941, he was a son of the late Madeline and Norbert Gauthier. Phil earned his bachelor's degree from Northern Michigan University and subsequently completed his master's degree at Syracuse University with an emphasis in psychology and social work.
He devoted his career to serving the community, retiring as the Executive Vice President of the E. John Gavras Center, where his leadership made a lasting impact.
Phil dedicated his life wholeheartedly to his family and community. His warmth, generosity, and unwavering support made him a pillar of strength and kindness. Beyond his family, he was passionate about reading and volunteering, finding joy in giving back to others and enriching his own knowledge.
Phil is survived by his two sons, Joseph Gauthier of Central, SC and Andrew Gauthier (Heather) of Cummins, GA; and his daughter, Danielle Ward (Dan) of Fountain Inn, SC. Philip's legacy will continue through his four treasured grandchildren, Parker, Carson, Isabella, and Sophia. He is also remembered fondly by his two brothers, Larry Gauthier (MaryAnn) and Brian Gauthier (Kathy).
The family extends a special thanks to the dedicated staff at NHC Greenville and Affinity Hospice for the compassionate care and love provided over the past few months.
Phil's legacy is one of love, compassion, and generosity. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him and crossing his path.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Simpsonville, SC.
For our family and friends in New York, a Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, December 6th at 2:00 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus in Auburn where the family hopes to hear all of your "Phil" stories.
May Philip Patrick Gauthier rest in eternal peace, his memory a blessing and inspiration to us all.
