Phil was a colleague at Purdue of enormous academic achievement and had an amazing impact on the health and wellbeing of people around the world. Patty and I enjoyed the Phil and Joan socially. I will miss Phil greatly . Martin Jischke

Phil will be missed by many, but no more so than the golfers at Coyote Crossing. Watching this genius play golf was a privilege. Even a greater privilege was to get to play with him, hearing about the amazing chemical inventions he had come up with, and the many more he wanted to perfect.
