Obituary of Philip Munroe Mead
Palmer-Philip (Phil) M Mead of Belchertown was called home to be with his Lord on January 23, 2022. Born on October 8,1936 in upstate NY, he was the son of the late Mildred and Ronald Mead. Phil was a long-time resident of the Three Rivers section of Palmer, MA and is survived by his large loving family whom he was so very proud of: he leaves behind his eleven children and their spouses, Patricia Wheelock and husband Kenneth, David Mead and wife Joan, James Mead and wife Debra, Daniel Mead and wife Anne, Susan McComb and husband Jeffrey, Cynthia Heffernan and husband Terence, Joseph Mead and wife Christina, Rebecca Boulrice, Debra Page, Benjamin Mead and wife Donna, Sarah Majewski and husband Gregory, along with his 26 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. He also leaves his former wife and the mother of their children, Sally Mead as well as his 3 siblings, Jennifer (Nona-Jean) Jacobs, Barbara McBratney Mead and Richard Mead. Phil was pre-deceased by his brothers Alan Mead and Thomas Mead. Phil's cat, Calico, also brought him much joy.
He had a passion for nature and found all creatures amazing from the smallest of bees to the largest of bears. He would spend hours outside just watching a bird make a nest or a squirrel store his winter bounty. Though he did not like the cold, he enjoyed watching the ever-changing seasons here in New England. History and the pursuit of interesting facts and knowledge were another pastime. Phil took great pleasure in just watching a building be erected or seeing how a machine could make a part for an airplane. He also enjoyed talking to people about the interesting fact he had picked up that day, or the bunny he saw hopping across the soccer field. Along with the gift of gab, he also had a wonderful listening ear and took great enjoyment visiting with others. Above all else, Philip knew God was in control and had the "wheel".
Calling hours will be Wednesday, February 2 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Beers & Story funeral Home, Main St. Palmer MA.
Per Phil's request, a Celebration of Life will take place on May 14,2022 at 2pm at his eldest son, David's home, 224 New city Rd., Staffordville, CT, where we can all enjoy the beautiful outdoors that gave him so much joy.
