So Sorry to see this. Thank you Phil for everything

I was so sorry to hear about Phil from his Daughter. As my brother Matt Wickham mentioned, I also met Phil through my parents, John and Ann Wickham. He was always tinkering in his garage, rebuilding a bike in hopes that someone would benefit and enjoy riding a bike as much as he did. We would see him riding with his reflective yellow jacket when we would visit. He was always happiest riding his bike and no doubt he passed on that love to many others through his organization. After Mom and Dad moved into Senora I would visit and bumped into Phil and could easily talk to him about his military service, his affection for both my parents and his positive outlook on life. His friendship meant so much to my Dad and Phil's visits uplifted my Dad's spirits on many occasions.

I wish to offer my deepest and most sincere condolences to Phil´s family and friends. I was greatly saddened to learn of his passing.

I first met Phil through my parents, John and Ann Wickham. They were neighbors at Splendido. He was introduced to me as a good friend, the best sort of person, and someone who knew everything about bicycles. And yes, to all three characterizations.

Phil was a great friend to my parents. When my parents moved into skilled nursing care, Phil frequently visited my father, "the General". Many a time when I arrived to visit, there was Phil. He painstakingly worked with my father to record his leadership advice with the mission of someday having these thoughts published. Phil would remind me that, as a former marine and fellow soldier, he would not relent on this charge. And he didn´t.

Phil was always joyfully positive and full of energy and purpose. He was kind to me. He passed shortly after my father. I´m sure somewhere, if together, they are discussing bicycles and kiddingly disagreeing on whether any respectable bicyclist would own a three-wheel recumbent bike.

I was fortunate enough to have an opportunity to work with Phil and befriend him. Phil was one of those rare individuals who took great care of people around him. I will never forget his attention and support. His departure leaves an empty space in my heart. God rest your soul, Phil. You are always loved.

I first met Phil about 20 years ago, and he was always of good value. We worked together on the NSC; he was a people person. Phil was soft-spoken, knowledgeable, and could charm the birds out of the tree. One ride I will always remember was late spring, sometime in April. It was a rare hot day in Evanston, 84-88 degrees. So we did what was called the "mother of all rides, Bull Valley", 115 miles. By the afternoon, the group was spread over a 5-mile radius; I was biking past Lambs Farm. I saw a bike on the side of the road and someone sitting under a tree; it was Phil. I sat under the tree with him (he gave me half of his water), and he looked at me and said, "Angela, how did I ever think I could ride 115 miles this early in the season? We both started laughing and got back on our bikes. I will miss Phil; he was the best of people and always had a smile on his.

We met Phil when he joined the Evanston Bike Club years ago. We spent many wonderful, fun filled days cycling with Phil. He was always so happy and funny when he was on his bike especially when it was a long ride. Phil would do something unexpected like jump up on a picnic table and dance. It was a joy to spend time with Phil on or off his bike. He enriched our lives and will be sorely missed. What an amazing person!
