Philip Sayer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home & Crematory - Nevada on Feb. 13, 2026.
Philip Aaron Sayer, affectionately known as Phil, passed away on February 11, 2026, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa. Born on November 30, 1946, in Eldora, Iowa, Phil was a dedicated individual whose life showcased his commitment to both his work and his family.

A man of many talents, Phil's career spanned various professions including farming, over-the-road truck driving, and as a large equipment mechanic for McAninch Corporation in Des Moines. However, his most cherished role was serving as a campground host with Hamilton County Conservation, where he and Jan found tremendous joy in meeting and connecting with campers from across the state, country, and even from around the world.

Phil was a proud graduate of New Providence High School, Class of 1965, and furthered his education at Iowa State University. He had a wide range of interests, which included coin collecting and watching TV show reruns, with his favorites being: The Rifleman, MASH, and Little House on the Prairie. An outdoor enthusiast, Phil cherished the beauty of nature and enjoyed spending time outdoors, creating lasting memories with family and friends.

In his personal life, Phil married his loving wife Jan on October 6, 2000, in New Providence, Iowa. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, adventure and campfires.

Phil is survived by his devoted wife, Jan Sayer of Nevada; his daughter, Angela Sayer of Eldora; his step-son, Greg (Amanda Kadolph) Ruopp of Nevada; his beloved grandchildren, Nicholas Sayer of Eldora, Zoe (Kellen Campbell) Moler of Logansport, IN, Layne Moler of Nevada and Zayleigh Moler of Eldora, step-granddaughter, Kira Ruopp of Nevada; great-grandsons, Conner, Hayden and Jordan Sayer of Marshalltown, great-granddaughter, Valenna Campbell of Logansport, IN; his sisters, Brenda Crabb of Eldora, IA and Janet (Dennis) Ogden of Roann, IN and brothers-in-law, Randy (Vivian) Hoge of Colorado Springs, CO and Rick (Pam) Hoge of Camanche.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Wendell and Marjorie (Svendsen) Sayer, step-dad, Dale Schwarck, son, Steve Sayer, and two brothers-in-law.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, February 17, 2026 from 5 to 7 p.m. and a memorial service will be held Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at 12:00 noon, both at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada. He will be laid to rest at a later date. The family requests that guests dress very casually - Phil always did! Memorials may be directed to the family to be used towards a yet to be determined cause.
