Philip C. "Phil" Scherschel, 83, of Bedford, passed away at 3:15 a.m. on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at his residence. Born June 26, 1942, he was the son of Roy and Gladys "Peggy" Robbins Scherschel. He married Sarah Towns on November 30, 1963, and she survives.

Phil was a graduate of Heltonville High School. He went on to further his education by completing two years of Diesel College in Nashville, Tennessee, and retired from McIntyre Construction after many years of service. He had been a member of the East Lawrence Water Board and the Bedford Bee Keepers Association and was a member of the Millwright Local Union No. 1076. Phil was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Bedford.

Phil was a lifelong farmer in Lawrence County. He and Sarah loved spending their summers at Wild Ridge at Patoka Lake, where he enjoyed fishing and hunting with his family and friends. His presence will be missed by his friends and especially his family.

Left to cherish the memories of Phil is his wife of almost 62 years, Sarah Scherschel; his children, Vonda (Ken) Stevens, Eric (Wendy) Scherschel, and Andrea (Jeff Corey) Scherschel; one brother, Donnie Scherschel; one sister, Mary Carol Jackson; 12 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren, with three more on the way.

Phil was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Peggy Scherschel; his son, Jeff Scherschel; and one brother, Kenny Scherschel.

Cremation was chosen with a private family burial at Cresthaven Memory Gardens in Bedford, with Fr. Jegan Peter and Deacon Dave Reising officiating.

The Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne Family Funeral Homes is honored to have been chosen to handle the arrangements for Phil and for the care of his family during this time of loss.
