Dr. Philip E. Ward M.D.; age 58; completed his earthly journey on Tuesday January 27, 2009. He practiced Emergency Medicine at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Dayton for 21 years until its closure, then at Upper Valley Medical Center in Troy and Ft. Hamilton Hospital in Hamilton until 2004. Phil was an avid University of Kentucky basketball fan and fisherman, making many trips with his wife Kay and their dogs, Maxx and Minnie, as well as with friends. He also enjoyed golf, home and yard work, and Internet browsing. He was a member of the Springboro First United Methodist Church. He belonged to the Greater Dayton University of Kentucky Alumni Club where he had served as President. He was born in Hickman County, Kentucky, graduated 1972 summa cum laude from Murray State University and from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine in 1976. He is survived by Kay, his best friend and wife of 33 years. Also surviving are his sister, Pattye Ward Jones (Lowell), his nephews, Joe (Jennifer) and Timothy (Lucy) Franklin, Jeff Jones, and niece Jennifer Jones Martin (Allen), great nephews Carter and Jackson Franklin, great nieces Sydney and Abigail Franklin, as well as his close friends; Barry and Mary Sue, Bob and Julie, Craig and Carol, Freeman and Geneva, Keith and Billie, Jerry and Valerie, and Richard. He is preceded in death by his mother, Hilda Jackson Ward, his father Joe E. Ward, and by his grandparents, Virgil and Edna Ward, and Lennie and Elsie Jackson, as well as close friends Leon and Betty, CC and Ted. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Cancer Institute or to the Springboro First United Methodist Church. A memorial service will be Saturday January 31, 2009 at 1pm at Springboro First United Methodist Church 60 E. North St Springboro, OH with Rev Suzanne Allen officiating.
