Phillip Leonard Baldwin, of Bridgeton, Mo., cherished father, grandfather and great-grandfather, entered his eternal rest on February 8, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on April 8, 1938, in St. Louis, Mo., Leonard is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Eleanor (Meyer); his children, Daniel (JoAnn) Baldwin, Randal Baldwin, Jennifer (Lawrence) Duffy and Rebeccah (Christopher Sr.) Durell; his grandchildren, Jade Baldwin, Zachary Baldwin, Andrew (Kayla) Baldwin, Tyler (Hannah) Baldwin, Ella Duffy, Pete Duffy, Christopher Durell Jr. and Adam Durell; and great-grandchildren, Penny, Iris, Emma, Charlie, Logan and Lily, as well as his brother-in-law Milford Straughan. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Beatrice (Riddle) Baldwin Sr., and siblings Ethel McCune, Nellie Baldwin, William Baldwin Jr., Kenneth Baldwin, Ruby Straughan, Gladys Larson and Lawrence Baldwin.
Leonard proudly served in the United States Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS Franklin D. Roosevelt before beginning his lifelong career as a carpenter. He was a member of the Carpenters’ District Council of Greater St. Louis, AFL-CIO. During a 30-year career with G.T. Lawlor Construction, Leonard was awarded the Craftsmanship Award by the St. Louis Chapter of The American institute of Architects for his role as a superintendent during the renovation and restoration of the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis.
A man of many interests, Leonard took pleasure in gardening, reading and woodworking. Upon his retirement, he developed an interest in art and took up oil painting. He enjoyed painting reproductions of renowned masters and anything else that pleased him. It brought him great joy to gift friends and family with his work. As much as he enjoyed these hobbies, nothing brought him more joy than time spent with his beloved family.
Leonard was a member of Chapel of the Cross Lutheran Church in St. Peters, Mo. As a devout Christian whose faith guided his life, Leonard’s legacy will be that of a strong, loving husband, father and grandfather. Our family, who he loved so dearly, looks forward to the day when we will all be reunited. “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away” (Rev. 21:4).
Visitation to be held Friday, February 20, 2026, at Chapel of the Cross Lutheran Church, 907 Jungermann Road, St. Peters, Mo. 63376, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.. Funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. at Chapel of the Cross Lutheran Church.
