Phillip Lewis Brown, loving husband, father, and grandpa, went to be with his Lord and Savior at the age of 73 in Casey, IL on November 29, 2025. Born on February 13, 1952 in Terre Haute, IN to Theron and Rosalie (Shawver) Brown.

Phillip was a retired farmer who grew up around Moonshine, IL. He was a 1970 graduate of Casey Westfield High School. He went on to complete course work at Lake Land College in Mattoon, IL before marrying his high school sweetheart, Carol Ann Sherwood. They celebrated 53 years of marriage this past May.

As a child Phillip grew up going to the Indy 500 race with his dad. Later, he shared this enjoyment of racing with his family. Phillip also accepted Christ as a young boy, recommitting himself to the Lord later in life. This led him to share the Word of God as a youth Sunday school teacher and a member of the choir at the Casey First Baptist Church. His passion and lifelong work was in farming, which included raising cattle and working the land. He was an avid sports enthusiast who enjoyed coaching not only his daughters in basketball and softball but also helping with local sports teams and programs. During retirement he enjoyed traveling to sporting events and vacationing with family and friends.

Phillip is survived by his loving wife Carol; his daughters Monica (Glen) McNeil and Kristy (Shawn) Duniphan; his grandchildren Darby (Kaleb) Shonk, Grace (Ravven) Hays, Drew Davis, Nicole McNeil, Gadge Duniphan, Grant McNeil, Carmen Duniphan, and his great-grandchild Diana June. He is also survived by his brothers Walter (Jeri) Brown, Kenny Brown, Lamont (Helen) Brown, Harold (Janie) Brown, brother-in-law Greg (Linda) Sherwood, sisters-in-law Karen Shull and Sharen Wright, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Theron and Rosalie Brown, sisters-in-law Linda Brown and Nina Brown, nephew Roger Brown, and niece Amanda Durnil.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2025 at Markwell Funeral Home with Pastor Brent Howard officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery, Cumberland County, IL. Visitation will be held from 4 – 7 p.m. on Friday, December 12th at Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave., Casey, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Casey First Baptist Church (Youth Programs), 101 E. Alabama St., Casey, IL 62420.
