Phillip Dumas Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Fairfield Funeral Home on Nov. 24, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Phillip "Phil" Dumas, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away on

September 26, 2025, in Greenbrae, California, at the age of 77. He was born on August

21, 1948, in Oakland, California, to Leo and Julie Dumas. Phillip's life was a testament

to adventure, love, and dedication, and he leaves behind a rich legacy woven with

vibrant memories and heartfelt connections.

From an early age, Phillip possessed a larger-than-life personality that drew people to

him. He was known for his unwavering spirit and his zest for life. Whether he was skiing

down a snowy slope, cycling through beautiful landscapes, or teeing off on the golf

course, Phillip approached each moment with enthusiasm. His passion for traveling the

world took him to some of his favorite places, including the breathtaking Hawaiian

Islands, the cultural treasures of Italy, and the diverse landscapes of Asia. Each journey

was an opportunity for him to explore new cultures and create cherished memories with

his loved ones.

Phillip's career at United Airlines spanned an incredible 56 years, from 1969 until his

retirement in 2025. He earned the prestigious Charles Taylor Master Mechanic award, a

recognition of his exceptional skills and dedication to his craft. His work not only fueled

his passion for aviation but also allowed him to connect with people from all over the

world, building friendships that would last a lifetime.

Phillip's interests were as varied as his travels. He had an insatiable love for crime

mysteries and movies, and he enjoyed discussing the latest plot twists with his friends

and family. Music was another of Phillip's great loves as he often filled his home with the

sounds of his favorite artists.

Phillip's love and devotion extended deeply to his family. He is survived by his beloved

spouse, Mary Dumas, with whom he celebrated a beautiful marriage on October 21,

1978. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure. Phillip was a

proud father to his three children: Daniel, Desiree, and Aaron, who each carry a piece of

his legacy in their hearts. He instilled in them a love for exploration and discovery,

encouraging them to embrace life's opportunities. He was also a treasured brother to

Mark and an adored grandfather to his three grandchildren.

Though Phillip faced health challenges in his later years, including a brave battle with

interstitial lung disease, he remained a pillar of strength and resilience. His spirit never

waned, and he continued to inspire those around him with his love for life.

As we remember Phillip Dumas, let us celebrate his adventurous spirit, his unwavering

love for his family, and his enduring legacy of kindness and joy. May he rest in peace,

knowing he made the world a better place just by being in it.
