Phillip Porter Obituary

Published by Legacy on Feb. 9, 2026.
Phillip Scott Porter was born in Oelwein, Iowa on January 22, 1959, to Allen D. and Janice (nee Schori) Porter. He passed from this earth on January 29, 2026, one week after his 67 th birthday.

When Phil was two years old, his family moved to Southern California. For the next eleven years, in keeping with his love of the outdoors, Phil spent his spare time on the Pacific Coast beaches, camping at Yosemite National Park in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, and riding bicycles with his buddies, in the foothills of the Santa Susana Mountains, near his Newhall, CA home.

When Phil was 13, his family was transferred to Carrollton, Texas. There he attended Dewitt Perry Middle School, R.L. Turner High School and DeVry University Irving. In his mid-twenties, Phil was hired by University of California, San Diego- Institute of Geophysics and Planetarey Physics- Scripps Institution of Oceanography. As an Associate Development Engineer, his career took him to extremely remote parts of the world, where he spent months in isolation, over-seeing construction sites.

Following his career at the university, Phil moved to Georgia, where he lived near family and worked in the restaurant business.

Phil is survived by his mother, Janice Porter, Carrollton, TX; two sisters, Kimberly Porter (Richard) Brasch, Peachtree City, GA and Anne Porter (Wayne) Combs, Melbourne Beach, FL; two nieces, Elizabeth Brasch (Nir) Mualem, Sandy Springs, GA and Olivia Brasch (Ahsan) Jiva, Peachtree City, GA; two nephews, Jake Combs, Bradenton, FL and Allen Combs, Melbourne, FL; Great-niece, Sophia Jiva and Great-nephews, Lavi Mualem and Elijah Jiva. He was preceded in death by his father, Allen Dean Porter.
