Philomena Kopil Obituary
Philomena Kopil (nee: Cusack) passed away peacefully on June 24, 2024, at Jersey City Medical Center. She was born in Brooklyn, NY to the late Eileen (nee: Taaffe) and Joseph Cusack and was the sister of the late William and Timothy Cusack. She was a graduate of Saint Edmunds Preparatory School in Brooklyn, a school in which she continued to support all her life. She was a secretary prior to getting married to John Kopil and then, staying home to care for and raise their daughter. Upon marrying in 1971, she became a long time Bayonne resident. Mrs. Kopil was devoted to Christian and Republican causes and charities. She also supported other charities such as the American Red Cross. She also loved to support animals in need. Philomena always had a pet to care for and adored cats. She enjoyed reading, collecting books, and was passionate about a number of political causes. In her younger years, she was also a writer, loved spending time with her family and friends, and enjoyed traveling with her former husband, John, especially to the beach.
Mrs. Kopil is survived by her loving daughter, Desiree Gannon, and her husband, Jason; her cherished grandson, Colin Gannon; and her dear cousins, Kathleen Walsh-Smorto, Ann Hayes, and Marguerite Moore.
Visitation will take place at the Bayonne Memorial Funeral home on Friday, June 28, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The funeral will be conducted on Saturday, June 29, 2024.
