Phyllis Chan Obituary

Published by Legacy on Dec. 1, 2025.
Phyllis Dunn Chan, age 74, of St. Ignace, Michigan, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2025. Born on January 15, 1951, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to Harold and Gertrude Dunn, Phyllis spent her early years at Grand Rapids, where her compassionate heart and love of learning first began to shine.

Phyllis devoted her life to serving others. An international educator, missionary, linguist, pianist, librarian and gifted organist, she shared her talents across communities and continents. Her music lifted spirits, her teaching shaped lives, and her faith-filled service left a lasting impact on countless people.

Phyllis married Adam Chan in 1985 and together they built a family grounded in love, humor, and resilience. Phyllis was the proud mother of Steven, Amy, and Colin, who cherished her guidance, strength, and unwavering support. She is also survived by her siblings: Dan Dunn, Tim Dunn, and Linda Holmes.

Phyllis lived with a rare combination of strength, kindness, and spirited determination. She was a dedicated volunteer, offering her time to community organizations, victim services, and anyone who needed a helping hand, even when she had little left to give. She loved gardening, playing piano, reading, exploring new cultures and exotic meals and, above all, a really good burger. Her humor, wit, and genuine warmth made her unforgettable.

A Memorial Service will be held on December 13, 2025, at 1:00 PM at the St. Ignace United Methodist Church, 615 US-2 W. St. Ignace, MI 49781. Family and friends are invited to celebrate her extraordinary life.

Her light lives on in every life she touched.
