Phyllis Jean Dowell, 90, of Diamondhead, Mississippi, passed away at her home on Saturday, August 3, 2024. Phyllis was born on September 12, 1933, in Vandalia, Missouri, the daughter of Orville Eugene and Etta Frances (Storck) Dowell. Phyllis graduated from Vandalia High School in 1951 and furthered her education at Gem City Business College in Quincy, Illinois. She was a faithful member of the Diamondhead Community Church. Phyllis married Dennie L. Dowell on January 4, 1953.
Phyllis is survived by her son, Gary Dowell (Susan) Versailles, KY; her daughters, Debi Ferris (Kerry) Hartsburg, MO, and Sandy Ricks (Steven) Diamondhead, MS; her Grandchildren, Bryan Dowell (Amanda), A.J. Jackson (Chris), Cayce Ferris, Lance Mock, and Brandon Mock; and her great-grandchildren, Adley (12), Ella-Caye (10), Beckley (8), Drew (7), Hank (6), Jacob (5); and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and four sisters: Helen Sue Rice, Christina Bradenburger, Ruth Caldwell, and Bonnie Krigbaum.
Phyllis lived an influential Christian life, always thinking of others and embodying the principles of her faith. Her positive outlook and constant encouragement were a source of inspiration to all who knew her. Phyllis's kindness and generosity touched many lives, and her home was always open to friends and family for gatherings filled with laughter and love. She had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel special and valued, offering a listening ear and wise counsel. Phyllis was always ready for a game of cards, which she usually won, and she enjoyed playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren when they would visit.
Above all, Phyllis cherished her time with her family and friends. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren held a special place in her heart, and she delighted in their accomplishments and activities. Her legacy of love, faith, and positivity will be remembered and cherished by all who knew her.

A visitation is scheduled for Saturday, August 10th from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. at Waters Funeral Home in Vandalia, MO. The Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 am following the visitation. Interment to follow at Vandalia Cemetery.
