Phyllis Gentile Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Padgett Funeral Home - Upper Deerfield Township on Dec. 6, 2025.
Phyllis Geraldine Gentile September 13, 1934 - December 4, 2025
Phyllis Geraldine Gentile, 91, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday morning, December 4, 2025. She was the devoted wife of Charles "Charlie" A. Gentile, the love of her life. Together, they shared 70 beautiful years of marriage and recently celebrated that milestone on November 19 of this year.
Born in Bridgeton on September 13, 1934, Phyllis was the daughter of Nicholas and Grace (Leonte) DeGregorio. She graduated from Bridgeton High School, Class of 1952.
Following graduation, Phyllis worked at Bell Telephone and later at Cumberland National Bank. She then joined the staff at Cumberland Regional High School as a cafeteria aide, eventually retiring from that position. Phyllis cherished her time at Cumberland Regional. She loved serving the students and enjoyed the friendships she formed there.
Retirement did not slow her down. With a lifelong passion for children, Phyllis began working at Remsterville Learning Center, where she lovingly cared for toddlers for 15 years. Many children affectionately called her "Mom-Mom," a name she wore with pride and joy. She truly looked forward to going to work each day.
Phyllis was also deeply involved in her sons' school experiences. She faithfully served as room mother for her two boys while they attended Immaculate Conception School and Seabrook Schools, always ready with cupcakes, treats, and anything else the class might need. During baseball season, she proudly volunteered at the North Cumberland Little League concession stands, supporting both her children and her community.
She was a self-sacrificing woman and the heart of her family, known for opening her home to all and creating a nurturing environment where everyone was well fed and cared for. Her incredible cooking and her generous spirit brought comfort and joy to those around her.
Phyllis was a faithful member of Holy Cross Parish and served on the Our Lady of Mount Carmel committee for many years. She was also a proud member of the Italian American Civic Club and remained active with her Class of 1952 reunion committee.
Phyllis was loved by all who knew her. She never missed an opportunity to send cards for every special occasion, always making others feel remembered. She delighted in day trips to the Inner Harbor and Lancaster, browsing boutiques and enjoying good food. Above all, she loved showering her family with gifts and affection. Her children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren were the joy of her life. Caring, compassionate, and full of warmth, Phyllis lived a happy and fulfilling life alongside her beloved Charlie.
In addition to her husband, Charlie, she is survived by her son Danny Gentile (Elizabeth); grandson Nicholas Gentile (Haley); granddaughters Lesley Damminger (George) and Marrisha Gentile; and great-grandchildren Charles D. Gentile, Peter Gentile, Cillian Rooney, Ciaran Rooney, Colette Rooney, Aubrey Starn, and Scarlett Starn. She is also survived by her sister-in- law Barbara DeGregorio and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents; her son Charles N. Gentile; her brothers Nicholas and Anthony DeGregorio; her sister Marie Wroblewski; and her nieces Phyllis Blazie and Patricia Sully.
Her heart belonged to her beloved Charlie and to the family they built together. Their love, and the joy she brought to each of us, will remain forever in our hearts.
Her Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at the Parish of the Holy Cross-Immaculate Conception Church, 312 North Pearl Street, Bridgeton on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at 11 AM. Friends will be received at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Twp.on Thursday, December 11th from 8:30 AM to 10;30 AM prior to mass.
