Phyllis Green Obituary

Published by Legacy on Nov. 7, 2025.
Phyllis M. (Bowers) Green, age 88, passed away peacefully at home on October 29, 2025, after a short illness. She was fondly known to family and friends as "Mustang Mama," because of her beloved red convertible Mustang.

Phyllis grew up in Arden DE and had many wonderful memories she loved to reminisce about. She attended the one room Little Arden School from grades 1st to 6th grade, Christ Our King, Class of 1950, and graduated from P.S. DuPont High School Class of 1954. She received her secretarial certificate from Goldey Beacom College and worked for DuPont-Louvier's and Stanton School District as a private secretary until 1976.

Phyllis and Buddy moved from Arden to raise their family in Glenville, Stanton, until 1998 and had a house built in Millsboro when he retired from DuPont's.

She deeply loved her family, her cats, the beach, hiking with her husband, and lived life to the fullest, from doing her daily crossword puzzles, being with friends to traveling. Phyllis even parasailed in Cabo San Lucas at the young age of 78. She was a member of the Indian River Yacht Club since 1999 and enjoyed being with her friends teaching water aerobics at the club.

Phyllis was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, Francis (Buddy) T. Green, Jr., her son, Dennis Green, her son-in-law, Gary Webb, her mother Catherine (Smith) Bowers, her father, Raymond B. Bowers, and stepmother, Hertha Bowers, brother Pete Bowers and sister-in-law, Eleanor Bowers.

She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Webb and Donna (Pete) Penna, her granddaughter, Jessica (Matt) Buckingham, and her beloved great grandson, Jace Buckingham. She is also survived by her stepsister, Cora Busch. Phyllis loved her extended Green and Bowers family and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

At her request, burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, her family asks that donations be made to the Brandywine Valley SPCA.
