Phyllis Marie (Duncan) Hanes passed away peacefully on July 5, 2025. Phyllis was born on March 4, 1936 to James Patrick Duncan, Sr. and Christine Marie (Pecenka) Duncan. Phyllis was the youngest of 5 siblings. She attended Kansas City Public Schools and graduated from Central High School where she played field hockey and was a member of the Olympian Society. She also attended Kansas City Junior College. On June 2, 1956 she married William R. Hanes. The result of that union was eight children with one child lost in infancy. Phyllis had a busy life raising seven children. In her later years she was an assistant cheerleading coach for a variety of local squads. She also helped decorate historic homes for Christmas and was a member of St. Ann's Altar Society. Phyllis loved mystery novels, soap operas, attending the ballet and tea parties, and garage sales. Most of all she loved spending time with her large family. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband William Hanes as well as two daughters, Mary Elizabeth Hanes and Theresa (Hanes) McMichen. She leaves behind two daughters, Christina Hanes (Dennis Dufva) and Carolyn Hanes (James Palmer, Jr.) and four sons, William Hanes (Kim), James Hanes (Tammy), Stephen Hanes (Rhonda Glasgow), and Phillip Hanes (Michelle Camerlynck) as well as fifteen grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Thursday July 10, 2025 at Speaks Suburban Chapel 18020 East 39th Street South in Independence from 5 to 7 pm and funeral mass will be held on Friday July 11, 2025 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church 2 East 75th Street in Kansas City, Missouri at 10 am. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet in Raytown with a reception afterwards at St. Elizabeth Church Hall.
