Phyllis Marie Hasenkamp, 85, of Centralia, KS died on July 18, 2024, at Via Christi Ascension Living in Manhattan, KS.
Phyllis's life journey reflects a deep connection to her community and family. Born in Frankfort, KS, on October 6, 1938, to John Frances and Lillian (Smith) Minihan, she grew up attending local schools and graduated from Blaine High School in 1956. After graduation, she moved to Topeka, where she initially worked at Southwestern Bell and Santa Fe.
In May 1958, Phyllis met Melvin Hasenkamp at a CYO dance in Topeka. Their meeting marked the beginning of a significant chapter in her life. They were married at St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Blaine, KS, on August 29, 1959.
Her life took a new direction when she moved to Centralia, KS, following her marriage. She dedicated herself to homemaking and raising a family with Melvin. Over the years, she pursued various jobs, each contributing to her community and family's well-being. She worked at Fort Markley in Seneca, KS, crafting cobbie dolls, and also spent time at a flower shop and the sewing factory in Onaga, KS. Her career path also included roles at Eastridge Nursing Home and Centralia Schools.
Beyond her professional life, Phyllis found joy in quilting and gardening, hobbies that resonated deeply with her. These activities were not just pastimes but sources of fulfillment and creativity. Throughout her life, Phyllis exemplified love and dedication as a sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Phyllis's story is one of commitment to family, community engagement through work, and the pursuit of personal passions. Her legacy lives on through her family and the memories shared by those who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her son, Daniel (Brenda) Hasenkamp of Centralia, and their children, Brent (Rachel) of Kansas City, Danielle (Peter) of Valley Falls, and Breanna of Tulsa, OK.; her daughter, Debra (Craig) Heideman of Topeka and their children, Nathan and Jensen of Topeka, and Ryan of Kansas City; her daughter, Diane (Jerry) Haug of Manhattan, and their children, Derek (Maddie) of Manhattan, Siera (Hunter) of Salt Lake City, Utah, Colton, Trevin and Mariah of Manhattan.
