Phyllis Ann Meadows, a beacon of kindness and friendliness, passed away September 13, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and creativity. Born on March 30, 1938, in Washington, Indiana, she was the cherished daughter of Walter F. and Flossie C. (Purcell} Nalker. Phyllis's early life in Indiana laid the foundation for a woman of remarkable character and resilience.
After completing her high school education, Phyllis embarked on a fulfilling career with Western Union. Her professional journey eventually led her to Michigan, a place she grew to love deeply, not only for its beauty but also for the Fradenburg family, who became an integral part of her life. In 1978, Phyllis made the move to Phoenix, Arizona, a decision that would open a new chapter filled with opportunities and friendships.
Phyllis took great pride in her many years of dedicated service at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. It was there that she formed enduring bonds with colleagues who would come to regard her as more than a coworker, but as a true friend. Her retirement from the phone company did not signify an end to her working life; instead, she transitioned into a role as a security guard for various businesses in Phoenix. Her presence was a daily gift to those she encountered, her friendly demeanor and genuine interest in others, brightening even the most routine interactions.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Phyllis was a talented poet. Her writings were a window into her soul, and she generously shared her poems with many, touching lives with her words as she did with her actions.
Phyllis's family was the cornerstone of her life. She is survived by her loving sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Doug Cook; her adoring niece, Katy Cook; and her devoted nephews, Brian Cook, Joe Speth, and Mikael Speth. Her niece Jackie Gallagan, dear friends Rita Stebbins-Wilcox and Rosie DeMarbiex, and her adopted family members in Michigan also survive her. Each of these individuals held a special place in Phyllis's heart, and she in theirs. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Cathy Speth, and her beloved husband, Larry A. Meadows, whom she married on Valentine's Day February 14, 1988, with his passing on July 10, 2010.
Phyllis Ann Meadows was a woman of many facets-interesting, kind, and unfailingly friendly. Her absence will be profoundly felt by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. As we bid farewell to Phyllis, we celebrate the indelible mark she left on our lives. Her spirit, encapsulated in her poetry and the memories we hold dear, will continue to inspire and comfort us. Phyllis's journey through life was one of joy, connection, and artistic expression, and though she has departed from this world, the light she cast remains undimmed.
A Private graveside service will be held at Arizonia National Cemetery, Phoenix, Arizona at a later date.
