BOWLING GREEN -- Phyllis Jean Nietz, age 88, passed away peacefully on Saturday December 13, 2025, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born December 28, 1936, in Bowling Green, Ohio, to the late Glenn and Stella (Conley) Eckert. Phyllis married Charles Nietz on April 16, 1955, at Mt. Zion United Brethren Church near Wayne. Charles preceded her in death in 2023.
Surviving Phyllis is her daughter, Teresa (Mark) Morgan of Liberty Center; son, Ron (Tammy) Nietz of Oregon; sisters Debbie Thompson, Sandra Kitterman and Carol Nelson, grandchildren, Brad, Brian, Melodee, Harrmonee, Aria; great-grandchildren, Connor, Sam, Brooklyn. She was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband Charles, son Daniel, granddaughter Maresa, and brother Richard and Robert Eckert.
Phyllis was a 1954 graduate of Montgomery Local Schools where she was a cheerleader/majorette in high school. Following high school, she then worked many years at Cooper in the transportation department and quality control later working for an entrepreneur vintage store. She was a member of the Mt. Zion United Brethren Church and enjoyed volunteering for the senior gatherings. She was also very involved with teaching Sunday school and transportation for the youth ministries. In her free time Phyllis enjoyed gardening, reading to the elementary children at Elmwood, baking and was an avid reader.
Friends will be received on Tuesday December 16, 2025, from 4-7 PM at Barndt Funeral Home in Wayne, Ohio. Additional visitation will be held on Wednesday December 17, 2025, from 10-11 AM at Mt. Zion United Brethren Church near Wayne where a Celebration of Life Service will begin at 11 AM with Pastor Ron Merritt officiating. A burial ceremony will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery, with a bereavement dinner and fellowship to follow at Mt. Zion Church.
Memorial donations may be made to Ohio Living Home Health & Hospice-Make It Happen Program and Henry County Transportation.
