Phyllis J. Oldenburg, age 88 of Yorkville, IL passed away on Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at the Hillside Rehab and Care Center in Yorkville, IL. She was born on June 2, 1935 in Peoria, IL the daughter of George "Dutch" and Flossie (Thomas) McKenna.
Phyllis (Phyl) was united in marriage on April 5, 1959 to Dorrance "Ole" Oldenburg and they spent the next 64 years happily together. She was a member of First Methodist Church of Peoria. Phyl was a 1953 graduate of East Peoria High School in Peoria, IL. She graduated in 1956, from the Methodist Hospital Nursing School in Peoria, IL, with a degree in Nursing. Phyl was employed, for several years, with both the Methodist Hospital and by a pediatrician in Peoria. She and her husband moved to Yorkville, IL in 1975. Phyl became active with the Fox Country Players, the Yorkville Junior Women's Club, and was involved with local politics. Phyl loved to travel, play golf, bocce ball, and go on both skiing and sailing trips with her family.
Phyl is survived by her husband, Dorrance "Ole" Oldenburg, her children, John Oldenburg of Yorkville, IL and Jan (Brad) Marks of Germantown Hills, IL, and her granddaughter Allyson Marks of Denver, CO.
Phyl was preceded in death by her parents, Dutch and Flossie McKenna, and her brother, George McKenna.
A Funeral Service was held at 7:00 PM on Monday, October 9, 2023 at the Nelson Funeral Home, 1617 North Bridge Street, Yorkville, IL. Interment took place at 1:00 PM on Thursday, October 12, 2023 in the Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria, IL.
Friends could visit from 5:00-7:00 PM, October 9, 2023 at the Funeral Home in Yorkville, IL.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association in lieu of flowers.
