Phyllis Jo "Phyl Jo" Richard, 90, of Mesa, AZ, passed away on January 2, 2025, in Mesa, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 16, 1934, in Logansport, IN, to the late Arnold and Grace Hufford.
Phyl Jo was a cherished member of her community, having been an active participant in the Eagles and Moose organizations. She held several offices at both the Moose and Eagles and was honored as a star recorder in 2000 at the Moose. Her love for square dancing was well-known, and she enjoyed spending her free time watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren play ball. Phyl Jo was also a loyal member of the Bill Anderson fan club and was thrilled to celebrate her 90th birthday in Nashville, TN, where she attended The Grand Ole Opry and had Bill Anderson sing "Happy Birthday" to her.
On September 15, 1994, Phyl Jo married Larry Richard, her loving husband, who survives her. She is also survived by her daughters, LuAnn (Glen) Branham of Apache Junction, AZ; Beth (Jason) Sage of Raleigh, NC and Karen Sue Hardy of Logansport, IN; one brother, Paul (Juanita) Hurd, Logansport, grandchildren Tasha (Jeremy) Costello of Logansport, IN, Angie (Mike) Lewis of Mesa, AZ, Jason (Diondra) Landis of El Monte, CA, Chrissy (Chris) Green of Mesa, AZ, Becka (David) Wooten of Logansport, IN, Larry Cearing, Rob (Jessica) Cearing of Lafayette, IN, Matt (Haley) Sage of Greensboro, NC, and Nikki Sage of Raleigh, NC; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Phyl Jo was preceded in death by her daughter, Cindy Cearing; grandson, Steven "Stevie" Lucy; brother, Robert Hurd, sister, Mary Louise Wells, great-granddaughter, Analeis J. Garcia; son, Larry Jo Galbreath.
She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her. Her vibrant spirit, love for her family, and devotion to her community will always be remembered.
A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday January 11, 2025, in the Gundrum Funeral Home with Pastor Bruce Russell officiating. A burial will follow in Davis Cemetery at Burnettsville, IN.
A visitation will be held from 11:00 am until the time of services on Saturday at the funeral home.
