Phyllis Skryd

1947 - 2023

Phyllis Joy Skryd (born Phyllis Snarr Briscoe, formerly Phyllis Briscoe Hood), of St. Louis, Missouri died of complications from congestive heart failure on January 19, 2023. She was born in St. Louis on May 4, 1947 to Conway and Ruby Briscoe (nee Snarr). A born and raised St. Louisan, she graduated from Cleveland High School and then attended Drury College in Springfield, MO where she met and married J. David Hood of Springfield, MO. They married and moved to Chicago where they raised 2 children, Nathan and Rachel. She later married Bruce Skryd of Berwyn, IL and moved to southwest Michigan then returned to her native St. Louis.
Phyllis was an avid reader and concert piano player. Her love of classical music was contagious and her children have many memories of her at the piano or reading a book. Later in life she became an accomplished medical editor for the Radiological Society of North America.
She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Conway Briscoe II. She is survived by her husband Bruce Skryd of Belleville, IL, son D. Nathan Hood (Mary Margaret Bobzin) of St. Paul, MN, daughter Rachel Herrman (Kyle), along with her beloved grandchildren Wesley, Camille, Joel and Bryce of Webster Groves, MO, her sister Mary Ellen Bremer (Charles) of Ladue, MO, sister-in-law Margaret Briscoe of Chesterfield, MO and multiple nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at Bopp Chapel in Kirkwood, MO on Saturday, February 4, from 2-4pm. In lieu of flowers, Phyllis would love if a donation were made to the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra.
