Phyllis June Surface

Phyllis June Surface, age 73, of Blacksburg, died Thursday, December 25, 2025, at her home. She was born in Christiansburg, VA, on June 27, 1952, to the late Wilbur and June Howard Bandy. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Betty Mae Loftus, and brother, Ronnie Bandy. Phyllis grew up in Chesapeake, VA after returning, she retired from Virginia Tech. She attended Fairview Community Church.

She is survived by her husband, Vernon Wayne Surface; son, John William Surface (Anne); daughter, Jessica Ann Poff; grandchildren, Cory, Tyler, Cody, Cassidy, Cheyenne, Savannah, Andrew, and Eli; great-grandchildren, Alaska, Levi, Braxton, June, Finlay, Colton, and Willow; brothers, Joe Bandy (Lynn), David Bandy (Pam), and Billy Bandy (Dee); sisters, Linda Harold, and Lois Sutter; mother-in-law, Mary Jane Surface; sisters-in-law, Martha Lucas, Alice Nutter, Gladys Sartin (David), and Lorie Jane Surface (George Spradlin); brothers-in-law, Leroy Surface, and Eric Surface; and, numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor George Close officiating. Interment will follow in the Surface Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. before the service.
