Pierre James Jones DVM

Born June 15, 1932, Portland, OR

Passed away September 4, 2025, Powell Butte, OR

Pierre was born on June 15, 1932 to Ivan and Berniece Jones in Portland, OR and was raised in Rainier, OR. He attended Colorado A&M University in Fort Collins, CO where he met his wife-Elizabeth Hays. Pierre and Betty were married on September 15, 1956 in Rainier.

Pierre and Betty lost their first child, Cheryl Ann. As husband and wife, they were committed to family. Following Cheryl's death, they brought 5 children into their home raising them as their own. Soon after bringing these children into their lives, they were blessed giving birth to 5 children followed by 1 more almost 9 years later.

Upon completion of Veterinary School, Pierre had a large and small animal practice in Columbia County and North Portland. Following advice from a doctor due to health complications, Pierre and Betty sold their Scappoose home and veterinary practices and bought a farm in Mt Vernon, OR. They lived in Mt Vernon and were active in many things in the John Day valley for over 40 years before retiring to Powell Butte.

Pierre's passions included: (first and foremost) Betty, family (especially grandchildren), the Catholic Church, rodeo, farming, and later in life reciting poetry. These passions all had one thing in common: His love of family.

He was Christ centered. He attended mass regularly, prayed daily and was always an avid reader of the Bible. His faith showed in his everyday life and was apparent to all who joined his table with a prayer before a meal. The family door was always open as a loving shelter to anyone.

Pierre's love for Betty was an example to the beauty of a devoted marriage. He passed away shortly before their 69th wedding anniversary. For many anniversaries, they attended the Pendleton Roundup often as a competitor and later just to watch and catch up with old friends and acquaintances who knew him as "Doc Jones". A root beer float was most often their dessert of choice to celebrate the day.

Pierre is preceded in death by parents Ivan and Berniece Jones, brother Ivan Jones and wife Jean, sister Donna Mulford and husband Dan, daughters Cheryl Ann Jones and Darleen Johnson, son in law Dave Nelson.

Pierre is survived by wife Elizabeth Jones, sons Pierre A Jones & wife Sue Ellen, Matthew Jones & wife KoRina, Michael Jones, Joseph Jones & wife Aimee, Marty Ball & wife Shelley, daughters Theresa Wood & husband Darrell, LaVonne Burrows & husband Mark, Sandy Skinner, Cheryll Nelson, sister Yvonne Braeme, son-in-law Cliff Johnson, 21 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren.

Dad, you are deeply loved and will be missed.

Funeral Mass will be held at noon, Sept 26, 2025 at St Joseph's Catholic Church 150 E First St, Prineville OR Graveside Service will be at 3:00 pm, Sept 27, 2025, at Green Mountain Cemetery 75900 Larson Road, Rainier OR
