Pete (Pierre) and I were classmates at St. Elizabeth High School, 1960-64. If basketball had had 3-point shots in the day, Pete would have been king of them. He was a real gentleman, a gentle man. My condolences to his family and all those he touched over these many years.

Praying for you always.

Tutto, I hope you are "here, there, and everywhere." I miss you every day. May you rest in peace.

Our high school math teacher, one of our favorites! What a unique man with a kind soul & wonderful personality. He taught us to ENJOY math...he had a true passion for his career & especially his students. I will never forget watching a A Bronx Tale with himThe saddest thing in life, wasted talentA life lesson he wanted us to learn. I will never forget Mr. Niesen & his smile! What a special person he was. Our thoughts & prayers go out to his family❤

Wonderful memories of Pete and his family. In the 60's we played baseball together (briefly) and a lot of basketball in the late 60's early 70's. Pete was part of our team in 1971 when we played in the Mt. Lebanon summer basketball league.
Pete, Howdie Gorman, Tom Shanahan - three of the best athletes to ever come out of St. Gabe's.
It was a real pleasure to know Pete and he will be dearly missed.

I liked math in grade school. As a result of Mr Niesen's classes, I LOVED math in high school at SFA and ended up getting a math degree in college. I played JV basketball at SFA for Coach Niesen. When I didn't make the varsity team, he recommended me to be the varsity scorekeeper; something I really enjoyed. Mr Niesen was a great teacher; he encouraged us to develop our math skills and made concepts look very easy. He was always friendly and supportive, as well as inspiring to me.May he rest in peace.

Mr. Niesen was not much older than we students at St. Francis when he began his long teaching career but he commanded our respect with a quiet authority and sincerity. He taught us well both in the classroom and on the basketball court. I feel fortunate to have had him as my teacher and coach. Jane Davis SFA '71

Mr. Niesen had a way of connecting with each and every one of his math students. My sisters spoke highly of him as students at SFA during the 70's. I had the privilege of enrolling in Mr Niesen's Alg 2 class at CCAC as a returning student during the 90's, and was able to experience is artistry first hand. Thank you Pete, for fostering a lifetime love of math for many of your students. RIP, my sincere condolences to your family.

Nick, I don't know where to start, your dad and I met at Villanova. He was a great friend through those college years. I consider myself fortunate to have known him. This past summer we reunited on Bob's back deck. He still had that sparkle in his eyes and his great smile. I lost my dad quite a while ago, all I can tell you is he will always be with you. My prayers and condolences are with you and your family. Heaven got our best ever shooter.

Mr. Niesen was a great math teacher. Had in SFA in 1977 senior year for calculus. He broke up the monotony of solving those awful proofs with weekly game day like chess to inspire us with analytical thinking. It proved very valuable as I finished my integrated degrees at RMU as a non-trad student in 2003, from transferred credits from CCAC. Was able to test in at a much higher math from that solid background at St. Francis, and get through analytical methods and business calc in the business track. Rest in peace, Mr. Niesen. Sincere sympathy to your family.

He taught me so much as my homeroom teacher from 2000-2004. Not just in math but in life. He was always there and had such an amazing soul. I found a love in The Bronx Tale and fried green tomatoes. I never forgot him. He was amazing and my heart goes out to his family. R.i.p. ❤❤

Nick, I am so very sorry for your loss. Your dad taught me Algebra (well, tried to teach me!) at SFA in the 70's. He was so sweet, kind and patient. I wasn't into sports but I know the basketball team adored him as a coach. I lost my dad 4 years ago today and a friend sent me this poem that helps me when I'm feeling sad.... "Perhaps they are not stars in the sky, but rather openings where our loved ones shine down to let us know they are happy." Take care.

Pete was an amazing person. He will be greatly missed by all whose lives he has touched. I enjoyed all the times I have spent with him talking about everything, having our fish fries with the Atkins Family. Bless you and your family in this time of your loss.

So sorry for your loss. Pete was my basketball coach at St. Francis. More than being a great coach that to do this day I remember his advice both on and off the court, he was a great man and someone I looked up to. Prayers to the family in this difficult time.

Mr. Niesen definitely got me through algebra at St. Francis Academy. He was also the Basketball coach of the Ciscans during my time there. I was reminiscing with the Sisters last night as to what a kind and patient man he was. He did have his hands full with a school of all young girls/women who I'm sure tried that patience on a daily basis. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

I was so saddened to hear of the tragic loss of your father. I was a student many years ago at Sacred Heart High School. Your father had a talent for conveying math and connecting with his student to make learning enjoyable. He was very good at what he did. May you find comfort through your memories of him. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Rest in Peace Mr. Niesen.
