Polly Boland Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery Funeral Home on Mar. 23, 2026.
Polly Kathleen Boland, 61, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Mercy Medical Center following a sudden illness. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday, March 27, 2026, at the Cedar Memorial Chapel Stateroom. Funeral Mass will take place at 10:30 AM on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at St. John XXII Catholic Parish. A private family inurnment will be held at Saint Patrick's Cemetery in Fairfax, Iowa.

Polly Kathleen Boland was born on March 19, 1965, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the youngest of seven children of John and Katie (McPartland) Zachar. A proud graduate of Cedar Rapids Regis High School, Class of 1983, she remained a lifelong resident of Cedar Rapids, where she built deep roots and lasting connections within her community.

In 1997, Polly met the love of her life, Steve Boland. They shared 27 wonderful years of marriage, built on love, laughter, and unwavering support for one another. Polly embraced Steve's children, Jack and Mikayla, as her own, becoming not just a stepmother, but a steady presence, trusted confidant, and one of their greatest champions. Family was at the center of Polly's world, and she poured her heart into the people she loved.

Polly will be remembered for her warm spirit, quick wit, and generous heart. She had a natural ability to make others feel welcome and valued. Whether offering thoughtful advice, lending a listening ear, or simply sharing a laugh, Polly brought comfort and light into every room she entered. She was strong yet compassionate, independent yet deeply devoted to those closest to her. Her kindness was quiet but constant, and her loyalty to family and friends was unwavering.

For 22 years, Polly dedicated her professional life to Fairfax State Savings Bank. She took great pride in her work and built lasting relationships with customers and colleagues alike. Known for her integrity, reliability, and friendly smile, Polly was more than a trusted banker, she was someone people could always count on. Her commitment and work ethic reflected the same care and dedication she brought to every area of her life.

Polly found joy in life's simple pleasures, traveling to new places, spending peaceful days at the lake, tending to her garden, and, most of all, creating meaningful memories with her family. Her love, strength, and gentle presence will be deeply missed and forever cherished.

Polly is survived by her husband, Steve Boland; stepson Jack (Nicole) Boland; stepdaughter Mikayla Boland; grandchildren Henry and Charlie Boland; and her siblings David (Lynda) Zachar, Debbie David, Jaime (Lori) Zachar, and Ned (Janet) Zachar, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Katie (McPartland) Zachar; her brother John Zachar III (Gillian); and her sister Ann Zachar.
