Polly "Anne" Walding, age 80, of Sioux City, Iowa, passed peacefully on Thursday, March 4, 2026, surrounded by family after a courageous battle with illness.
Anne was born on March 27, 1945, to Thelma (Cowell) and Herbert Ray Eastman. Herbert passed away when she was young, and she was raised by her mother, Thelma, and her stepfather, Leo McKinley. Anne was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend who found joy in caring for others, sharing laughter, and spending time with family. Her strength, kindness, and steady faith carried her through life’s challenges and touched everyone who knew her.
During her first marriage, Anne had one child, her beloved son, Bud Reynolds Jr., who was truly her world.
Over the years Anne lived in California, Illinois, and Arizona before eventually returning to the Siouxland area. She attended Iowa’s School of Beauty and went on to work at several salons throughout Siouxland before eventually opening her own salon. Through her work as a hairstylist, Anne built lasting friendships with many loyal clients and coworkers who became some of her closest lifelong friends.
Anne was married to the love of her life, Phillip J. Walding. They were married on August 15, 1984, in Latham Park. Through her marriage to Phil, Anne also had the privilege of becoming a stepmother to his eleven children. During their marriage, Anne and Phil loved going dancing, camping, and spending time outdoors together. After retiring from the salon business, Anne continued serving her community by working for the Sioux City Public Schools Food Service Program.
Anne also loved meeting friends for coffee and spending time socializing. She especially treasured her friendship with Rita Davidson. The two could often be found on one of their many adventures together — traveling, attending shows, or simply enjoying a good meal and conversation.
Family meant everything to Anne. She rarely missed an opportunity to support those she loved and could often be found attending her grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s activities, games, concerts, birthdays, and school events. Being present for these special moments brought her great joy and was one of the greatest highlights of her life.
Anne is lovingly remembered by her beloved son, Bud Reynolds Jr., and daughter-in-law Christi of Alto, MI; her grandchildren Austin (Ashley) of Ft. Worth, TX; Matthew (Bobbi Jo) of Sioux City, IA; Mitchell (Kayla) of Sioux City, IA; Brandon of Omaha, NE; Christian of Alto, MI; Katerina of Marquette, MI; and Brady of Alto, MI; and her great-grandchildren Joshua, Austin Jr., Autumn, Elizabeth, Spencer, Abigail, Charlie, and Benjamin. She is also survived by her siblings Theresa (Eugene) Hughes of Sioux City, IA; Lu Lunning of Sioux City, IA; Judy (Jerry) Saltzman of South Sioux City, NE; and Ron (Karin) Eastman of Sioux City, IA, along with extended family, stepchildren, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert Ray Eastman and Thelma McKinley; her stepfather, Leo McKinley; her husband, Phillip J. Walding; and other loved ones who welcomed her home.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 10, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with a Memorial Service at 1:00 p.m., followed by a luncheon at Christy Smith Funeral Homes, Morningside Chapel, 1801 Morningside Avenue.
Anne’s love, warmth, and quiet strength will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
