Pomeroy Elzie Tomberlin

1947 - 2026

Pomeroy Elzie Tomberlin, age 78, died and entered into his eternal rest on Saturday morning, Jan. 10, 2026, at Fairfield Senior Living and Rehabilitation in Fairfield, Illinois.
Pomeroy was born Feb. 16, 1947 in Alma, Georgia, to Bennie and Mary Cecil (Stone) Tomberlin. Pomeroy married young, worked extremely hard, began a family and, along the way, came to faith in Jesus Christ. His was a faith that he earnestly sought to live out and share with others. He seldom met a stranger and made many friends as a route truck driver in the Jacksonville, Florida area. Together with his former wife, Barbara, of 43 years, Pomeroy nurtured and raised four sons who survive: Bennie Tomberlin (Sheila) of Fairfield, Dave Tomberlin (Karen) of Hilliard, Florida, Michael Tomberlin (Lauren) of Hilliard, and Jerry Tomberlin of Baxley, Georgia. In addition, he is survived by seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Pomeroy was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, and a very special granddaughter, whose memory even cognitive loss could not erase.
The family would like to thank the staff, custodians, nurses, and CNAs of Wabash and Fairfield Senior Living and Rehabilitation in both the Carmi and Fairfield locations and the SSM Health at Home Hospice team for the exceptional care given to "Pom" across these seven years.
A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, at the Tomberlin Cemetery in Surrency, Georgia. A visitation was held from 10:15 a.m. until the service at the cemetery.
