Predrag "Pred" Bulic, M.D., age 63, of St. Augustine, passed away unexpectedly on July 23, 2022, at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville. Predrag was born in Zrenjanin Serbia, to mother Dobrinka Micic, a homemaker, and father Radovan Bulic, a primary school teacher of the natural sciences. His parents were both born in Melenci, Serbia a small village nearby Predrag's birthplace. Upon his graduation from high school, Pred attended the University of Belgrade Medical School where he received his formal training to become a licensed medical doctor in Serbia. Following his graduation, he served as an officer in the Serbian Navy Medical Corps. Soon after graduating from the university on November 1, 1982, Pred joined the Medical Center in Vrnjacka Banja, where he practiced emergency medicine for the next five years.
Driven by his desire to continue his cultural, spiritual, and educational experience in the larger world, in February of 1990, Pred applied to and was accepted by the Maharishi International University where he attained his Master of Science in Molecular Biology & Physiology in July of 1993. Over the next ten years, Pred worked as a Clinical Research Assistant for St Jude's Children's Research Hospital, and later he became a Research Associate for the School of Pharmacy at The University of Mississippi at Oxford. During this time he worked vigorously to complete the USMLE examinations to qualify to apply for entry into an accredited medical residency program in pathology.
Pred's dream was finally realized in July of 2001 when he was accepted to undergo his residency training with the Department of Pathology at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. While in Mississippi he met the love of his life, Letitia Hudson, who was working as an Educational Assistant in Greensboro, North Carolina following her graduation from Guilford College. Following the completion of his term with the Mississippi Medical Center in June of 2005, Pred and Letitia moved to Massachusetts together and Predrag continued his education as a surgical pathology fellow with the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester until June 30, 2006. It was not until July of 2006 that Pred entered forensic medicine as a fellow and Assistant Medical Examiner with the Broward County Medical Examiner's Office in Ft Lauderdale. At the end of his term, he accepted a position as the Associate medical Examiner with the District 8 Medical Examiner's office in Daytona Beach. Predrag and Letitia were married in a small ceremony on July 26, 2007, in Ormond Beach, Florida. During his five years of service to the Volusia office, Pred distinguished himself through his commitment to professionalism, his ability to consistently produce a high quality of work, and his continued willingness to assist, his colleagues, law enforcement officials, attorneys, and the larger community.
In 2010 Predrag, known affectionately as "Dr. B," became the Chief Medical Examiner for the District 23 Medical Examiner Office in St. Augustine, where he was currently serving. Predrag's numerous successes in this office include becoming a board-certified medical examiner, providing funding for continued education for all ME employees, and receiving the National Association of Medical Examiners (NAME) Accreditation for his office in 2013.
When he wasn't working, Predrag enjoyed being close to nature. He loved the ocean, enjoyed swimming, and cooking, and was a bird enthusiast. A very active man, Predrag had many other hobbies such as playing basketball, windsurfing, and tennis, and he loved to travel and learn about new places and cultures. Everything Predrag did, he did with great intensity. He was always learning and was especially interested in helping people improve their lives through a healthy diet and physical exercise. He was an avid reader on many subjects and enjoyed researching military tactical weapons and gear and learning the old ways and traditions of his ancestors. A private gentleman, he was greatly respected by all who knew or worked with him. He will be deeply missed by his family and close friends.
He is survived by his wife, Letitia Bulic of St. Augustine; mother, Dobrinka Bulic of Serbia; sister, Snezana Atanakovic; niece, Marjina Stevic and a nephew, Ivan Atanakovic.
In accordance with his wishes, a private service will be held.
