Prescilla "Penny" E. Abernathy

Prescilla E. "Penny" Abernathy, born on August 14, 1959, in Hemet, California, to Franklin and Jacqueline Raner, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2025, in Kansas City, Missouri. She is remembered not only for her dedication to her career in healthcare but also for the love and joy she brought to those around her. 

At the time of her illness, Penny was employed with Sunflower Medical Group, where she utilized her skills and compassion developed through her career in nursing. Her commitment to her patients and her profession reflected her dedication and deep care for the wellbeing of others. Penny had a wide array of interests, with a noted affection for dragonflies, symbols often associated with change and transformation, reflecting her insightful view on life. She also enjoyed traveling, visiting new restaurants, cooking, (authoring a cookbook), gardening,  and especially spending time with family.  

She lived fully and embraced the beauty of her surroundings, leaving a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to have known her.

In her family life, she is survived by her son, Shawn Cahill, and her brothers and sister, Tim Raner, Nathan Raner, Matthew Raner, and Ruth Raner. Each cherished the moments they shared with her and will carry her memory forward in their hearts.

A visitation honoring Penny will take place on May 9, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM, followed by a funeral service at 10:30 AM at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, located at 14275 S Black Bob Rd, Olathe, Kansas 66062.
