I am just now reading the obituary and wish to express my condolences. Brian, especially to you with so many losses.
I met Pres Hotchkis during the years I represented UC Berkeley out of the Los Angeles office. Pres then had an office two blocks away and was happily suggesting to Chancellor Tien that UC Berkeley consider asking his brother John to lead the next campaign for the university.
One particular visit that I recall was for P's 60th birthday. I took a huge blue/gold balloon bouquet and spent 15 min in completely relaxed social conversation. P talked about "getting married for LOVE!" and said he'd not understood how most of life's rewarding things were a lot of WORK, including marriage. And without the work there wasn't the reward. It was a valuable insight to life from a 60-year-old to a 30-year-old and I've not forgotten it. I turned 60 this year and thought about Pres and the conversation, which is how I came to look online and find he has departed.

He will certainly live on in my memory, and I'm sure countless others. My condolences to Brian for the evacuations on top of the sad memorial. It's too much to take in. The Heavens were maybe crying!? Susan

My Father Had A Great 88 Year Life. He Was Blessed By So Many & Will Be Missed Forever. I Attended Both Of His Parents Services Many Years Ago. Life Presents Challenges We Can Not All Attend Due To Evacuations By Nature & Law Enforcement. I Put My Fathers Ashes In The Ground With Love. I Hope The Bixby-Hotchkis Family Will Someday Realize The Great Pain & Sorrow Our Family Has Seen With Loss Of RBH & HMH & Now PBH - It Took 3 Times To Have The Service & Unfortunately, I Missed It Due To Being Evacuated From The Disasters Hitting SB. I'm Forever Sorry But Did Not Have A Choice In The Matter. I Dont Think Dad Minded At All For He Knew I Loved Him & I Was The One Who Put Him In His Grave. God-Bless Dad & Have A Great Trip To Heaven!!! Love, Brian Preston Hotchkis
