Pruett Harding Obituary

Published by Legacy on Aug. 21, 2025.
Pruett Edward Harding Jr., age 61, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, passed away peacefully at his home on

Wednesday, August 13, 2025. He was born in Shelby, Ohio, to the late Pruett Harding Sr. and Janice

"Kay" (Fawcett) Harding.

Pruett graduated from Mount Vernon High School before proudly serving four years in the United

States Marine Corps. After his service, he worked at SBC Ameritech Ohio and later at Lanning's Foods,

where he was a skilled meat cutter until his passing.

Sports were a lifelong passion for Pruett, starting in childhood and lasting throughout his life. He loved

baseball, yard darts, throwing horseshoes, shooting pool, and especially bowling. He bowled three

perfect 300 games in his lifetime - with his very first at the young age of 16 - and was known for

having one heck of a left hook.

In his spare time, Pruett could often be found on his motorcycle or at home practicing on his guitar. He

also loved being outdoors, especially walking in the woods and spending time in nature.

Though Troy was technically his brother-in-law, he was truly a lifetime friend, someone Pruett could

always count on. Many of Pruett's friends described him as fun and hilarious - his humor, though

sometimes a little cold, was always meant in good spirit and left you laughing.

He is survived by his sister, Jacqueline (Troy) Thompson; brother, Clark Eugene Githens; niece, Felicia

(Chris) Carrillo; aunts Nancy (James) O'Brien and Barbara Harding; several great-nephews and a

great-niece; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and his nephew, Scott

Stover.

The family will be hosting a celebration of life on Saturday, September 6th, 2025, from 12:00pm to 3:00pm at Colonial City Moose, 417 W High St, Mount Vernon, OH 43050. Friends are invited to come, share stories, and

raise a glass in his honor.

In lieu of flowers, friends and family are invited to roll a strike, strum a guitar, take a ride on their

motorcycle or play a song that makes you think of him - and maybe tell a joke or two in his memory.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the Knox County Veterans Administration, the

Colonial City Moose Lodge, and all the employees and staff at Lanning's Foods for their support and

kindness.
