Purificacion Perez Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Casey & Rios Funeral Home on Dec. 16, 2025.
Surrounded by love, Purita Perez peacefully entered eternal rest on December 14, 2025. Born on February 2, 1936, in Coamo, Puerto Rico, Purita was the daughter of Luis Adrian Escalera and Maria Catalina Martinez. She lived a life full of love, strength, and devotion to her family. She shared 62 wonderful years of marriage with her loving husband, Hernan R. Perez Sr., with whom she built a beautiful life and family. Purita was the proud mother of four children: Hernan R. Perez Jr. – loyal and faithful, a steady presence of love and support (and his loving wife, Maggie Reyes Perez, who Purita cherished as a devoted daughter-in-law), Myra A. Perez – her ride or die, a devoted daughter who loved spending hours on the phone with our mom, making the days go by fast and filling them with endless giggles and joy, Maritza Pacheco – witty, with a crazy sense of humor and a shared passion for decorating for all occasions, bringing beauty and joy into every celebration and Brian Perez – a true jokester, someone who could walk into any room and light it up with laughter; Purita always loved all his adventures and took the ride with him wherever he went. She was so proud of him. (spouse: Leticia M. Alvarado-Perez). She was also the cherished grandmother to twelve grandchildren: Kathleen M. Fontan, Luis A. Figueroa, Kayloni M. Perez, Robert R. Pacheco, Leticia E. Figueroa, Alec L. Figueroa, Kaitlyn M. Perez, Hernan R. Perez III, Andrius J. Bravo, Americo L. Perez, Matilda V. Perez, Penelope J. Perez, and the adored great-grandmother to five great-grandchildren: Nehemiah A. Thunder, Novalie A. Thunder, Zion N. Perez, Sienna R. Gilbert, and Rio A. Fontan. She is also survived by her loving sister, Juana Elisa Escalera, and was a loving aunt to countless nieces and nephews, always offering guidance, laughter, and unconditional love. A Life Well Lived. Purita was an extraordinary cook and gracious host, known for preparing delicious meals that brought family and friends together. Her home was a place of warmth and welcome-she greeted everyone who entered with open arms, a smile, and often a plate of her famous dishes. Her children often described her as funny, a gifted storyteller, full of infectious laughter, playful with her grandkids, humorous, pure, proud, and wonderful. She had a way of making everyone laugh until their belly hurt, leaving behind memories of joy that will never fade. Her family was her greatest joy, and her legacy of kindness and compassion will live on through each of them. Prayers for Purification will held on Thursday, December 18th, 9:15 AM from Casey & Rios Funeral Home, 4540 West Diversey Ave., Chicago, IL 60639 proceeding to St. Viator Church for her Funeral Mass that will begin at 10:00 AM. Private Cremation Rites to follow. Family and friends are invited to join us in honoring a celebration of Purita's life on Wednesday, December 17th, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
