Quillen Eugene Driggers

Quillen Eugene "Gene" Driggers, age 94, of Titusville, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, service, and a deep love for the skies.

Gene was born in Frostproof and raised in and around the Lake Wales area, where he developed the strong values and work ethic that would guide him throughout his life. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, carrying that sense of duty and commitment into his civilian life.

Following his military service, Gene built a long and respected career as a lineman with BellSouth, where he worked faithfully for many years before retiring.

Gene had a passion that truly set him apart-his love of flying. He was happiest in the air or among fellow aviation enthusiasts at Arthur Dunn Airpark, where he spent countless weekends. A skilled and adventurous spirit, Gene even built his own ultralight aircraft and enjoyed many peaceful hours flying over the Titusville area, embracing the freedom of the open sky.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerard Driggers and Alberta Bond Driggers.

Gene is survived by his loving wife, Vernie Marie Prillhart Driggers; his son, Dennis Driggers; and his granddaughter, Charity Jean Driggers. He also leaves behind his cherished stepchildren: Joe Akins (Kim), Don Akins (Dixie), Angie Easley (Tom), Cheryl Cassidy (Larry), Jim Akins (Amy), and Andy Akins (Cora), along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will carry forward his memory and spirit.

Gene will be remembered as a man of quiet strength, dedication, and a deep appreciation for life's simple joys-especially the thrill of flight and time spent with those he loved.

A service celebrating Gene's life will be held at Temple Baptist Church on April 18 at 11:00 a.m. A military service with honors will follow at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery on Monday, April 20 at 9:00 a.m.
