R. Earl Lund, age 81, passed away on May 1, 2025, at home in Sandy, Utah. He was born on August 21, 1943, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Roland (Roy) Lund, Sr., and Ines Louise Prescott.
Earl married Cindy Chaney in November of 1976.
Earl had many hobbies during his life. He bragged that being a military kid, and later proudly serving himself, allowed him to play ALL the sports. His favorite was baseball. He loved photography and developed his own film. While raising a family, he enjoyed numerous outdoor activities including boating, fishing, camping, and bow hunting. Earl and Cindy enjoyed square dancing (Pair-A-Dice Squares), wine making, tasting, golfing, their dogs, and travel. They enjoyed the time well spent with good friends, tasting wine and learning to make it. They played many rounds of golf. They participated in Jack Russell flyball, competitive racing, hurdles, and lure coursing. Earl loved to do woodwork. He had a home shop named Earl’s Turnings. There, he envisioned, created, and gifted many memorable items that his family and friends will treasure forever.
Earl is survived by his wife of 48 years, Cindy; stepdaughter and primary caregiver Michele (UT); daughters Audrey (UT) and Heidi Solokis (Steve, CO); sons Mike (Kelly, UT) and Troy (Karen d:2013, Holly, UT); brother Casey (Tammy, UT); 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews over a few generations and two of his beloved dogs.
He is preceded in death by his daughter Karen, parents, three siblings, family, and friends too numerous to count.
