Rafael Sondon

Rafael Luis Sondon, 89, of Cedarhurst, NY passed away peacefully on Monday, November 24th, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. Beloved husband of Nilda Sondon. Loving father of Lillian Sondon and Rafael Sondon Jr. Admired grandfather of Alyssa, Alex, Gianna, and Rafael. Revered great-grandfather to five great-grandchildren.
He was born in Holguin, Cuba on August 25th, 1936, to parents Antonio Sondon and Antonietta Gonzalez. Rafael spent the first 30 years of his life in Cuba and then the remaining 59 years in the United States. Rafael married Nilda Rojas on February 14th, 1962.
When arriving in the United States Rafael worked every day for 21 years without a day off to build a better life for his family. He poured his heart and soul into the business he founded, Raly Plumbing supply, that he named after his two children Ralph and Lily. Rafael established his legacy by being a stern negotiator and savvy businessman. Not everyone may know that he was as kind as he was tough. Rafel was always willing to help those in his family and community, and because of this he became a living legend and cornerstone of the South Richmond Hill community. He also knew how to enjoy life outside of his business. Rafael loved listening to music, enjoying good food and cigars, and basking in the better life he worked tirelessly to create for his family.
