My deepest sympathies to the Westphal family. I started working at Vertex in 1992. I remember Ray as being caring, thoughtful, and funny. I remember the April Fools jokes that he played on his employees. They were funny. Ray really cared about his family and his Vertex family with all his heart. He will be surely missed not only by his family but by all who knew him at Vertex.

It was a joy to to have cared for Ray when he was in Naples. I truly enjoyed his stories his company and feel blessed to have known him. I´ll never smell a cigar or see an Ashton again without smiling and thinking of Ray.

Jeff and I send our deepest condolences to the entire Westphal family. I started working at Vertex in 1993 and I met Ray during my first week. While chatting we discovered we were both German and we spoke a little bit. His German was better than mine. :) The last time I saw Ray he was being given a tour of our new building in the late summer of 2017. I happened to run into the group and someone told me he may not recognize me. But I approached and when he saw me he started talking German to me. It´s a wonderful memory. There are so many other memories like the DC trip or the shenanigans every April Fools Day. He was kind, funny, tough but fair. I am forever grateful that he founded Vertex and I had the privilege of working there for 25 years. Rest in peace Ray.

We are sorry to learn of Ray´s passing. Our relationship with Ray goes way back to our days at Drexel. As a fraternity brother to Ray and a cousin to Antoinette, we have quite a few fond memories. Ray left a lasting impact on those who were fortunate to know him. We remember his zest for life, kindness, and love of his family. Our hearts go out to Cindy, Amanda, Jeff, and Stefanie.

I was fortunate to have joined Vertex back in 1991 where I was tasked with developing the legacy tax engine.  We worked hard and also had an incredible amount of fun.  Ray rewarded us with many memorable events celebrating the growth of the company.  I will never forget the renaissance party where we all wore renaissance clothing.  I rented a long velvet gown and hat which in hindsight was not ideal in the summer climate but wow what a fun event.

Rest in peace, Ray.

My deepest condolences to Jeff and the family.

Dear Jeff, Stephanie, Amanda and the entire Wesphal family,

I'm so sorry to hear Ray passed on. Please accept my deepest condolences.

I have fond memories of Ray. He was so warm and kind to everyone in the Vertex community which I always considered to be my extended family.

I'll never forget our first and last handshake.

I am so fortunate to have known Ray and worked at Vertex.
