Ralph was born in Chicago and grew up in Rockford, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Daisy James; brother Terry James and sisters Joan Cancelose and Diane Nelson. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Bonnie; Daughter Jennifer (Jamie) Lundberg (Paul) and grandchildren: Bryan, Katherine, Savannah and Xavier.
Ralph left high school to join the Navy and served on a Destroyer Escort for 10 months. He was enjoying a very successful career with General Mills when he was drafted during the Korean conflict. He decided to make the Army his career and served in many locations and many positions, including two tours in Vietnam. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel and owned and operated a vehicle transport business before retiring to Sun City Hilton Head with his wife, Bonnie. They moved to The Seabrook on Hilton Head in 2019.
Ralph was a Christian, a patriot, a loving husband and a proud father and grandfather.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, January 6, 2023 at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Rd, Bluffton, followed by inurnment with military honors at 3:00 pm at Beaufort National Cemetery.

Ralph will be greatly missed.He was a generous and outstanding person. He was dearly loved by all at Seabrook. We extend our deepest sympathy to his wife, Bonnie, and his family. We were honored to have know him. Bob and D´Ann Lane

I´ve only known Ralph for a few months but he is so kind, funny, and genuine. He will be missed at The Seabrook. I will forever be grateful for the brief friendship we enjoyed. He´s one of a kind! Praying for Bonnie during these difficult days.
