Ralph Thomas Snead, 75, of Ironton, passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at a local health care facility in Ironton, Ohio. The Radford, Virginia native was born November 17, 1939, a son of the late James Daniel "JD" and Helen Tordiff Snead. Ralph was a graduate of Ironton High School where he was an outstanding all-around athlete. In 2014 he was enshrined into the Ironton High School Athletic Hall of Fame and was a past honoree of the Ironton Sports Day. Ralph served his country in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the Central Christian Church in Ironton. He was a former employee of the Dayton Malleable Iron Company and retired from the Ironton City Schools where he was the supervisor of the maintenance department.. He was a member of the V.F.W. post #8850 and the American Legion. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: a son: David Leland Snead a brother: James Snead three sisters: Barbara Lawless, Mary Snead and Bettie Compston He is survived by: three daughters: Charla R. (Terry) Reedy of Equatorial Guinea, West Africa, Shara Runyon and Shelli (John) Culbertson both of Ironton a brother: Charles (Yvonne) Snead of Coal Grove, Ohio a sister: June (Dan) Calhoun of Houston, Texas 7 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and other family members and many friends Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Monday, January 5, 2015 at Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 South 7th Street, Ironton, Oh. with Rev. Steve Harvey officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery with military honors provided by the V.F.W. Post #8850. Visitation will be Monday from 11:00 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home. Pallbearers for the service will be Levi Runyon, Jared Snead, Craig Thomas, John Culbertson, Nick Culbertson, Bobby Snead, Damon Snead and honorary pallbearers will be Jim Rodehaver and Mike Burcham.
