RALPH FRANKLIN WILLIAMS III

20JAN1945-11MAR2026

Heaven has gained another saint as after a courageous, dignified battle with cancer, our father, husband, brother, uncle, grandparent, and leader has left us to claim his well-earned eternal reward.

Illnesses that challenged, tired, and eventually took our patriarch never truly defeated him. Ralph was an unparalleled example of love, patience, strength, peace, calm, determination and faith. Living each day as if it were a gift, he taught all who met, knew, and loved him to do the same.

A voracious reader (especially while sunbathing on Lewes Beach), he was always keen to share his knowledge (sometimes opinion…) as he schooled all via family game nights, intricate stories or inspiring life lesson 'scenarios'.

Nowhere were his talents and intellect more acutely on display than as exemplified daily for four decades in Beebe Hospital's operating room(s) as a nurse anesthetist, where his professionalism and technique were surpassed only his bedside manner. It's been estimated that he delivered anesthesia (and crucially, gently performed corresponding reawakenings) as part of over 40,000 surgical cases.

More importantly, Ralph was a man of deep and continuously evidenced, enacted faith in God. Enthusiastically participating in local church opportunities such as youth leadership and church officer, his passion laid in choir. His love for singing expanded to participation in other choral groups as well.

Sadly preceded in passing by his youngest son, Brett (survived by his loving wife Genevieve and precocious son Sheppard), Ralph is survived by his soulmate of nearly six decades in loving marriage, Bonnie; his sons, Andrew (wife Rita and boys Keenan and Bodhi) and Bryan (wife Lauren and boys Brennan, Christian, and Landon). Lovingly sharing in our celebration of his memory are his sister Jane Carroll (preceded by husband Bob, whom Ralph truly loved as a brother)) and children Susan (husband Bob), John (wife Heather), and Joanna (husband Brian), whom he treated as his own, as they did likewise. Similarly, in-laws John and Sandy Braddy (children Jennifer, Jill, and David) were his other 'found' siblings, sharing countess trips, visits and laughs. In all relationships, Ralph demonstrated the finest traits of his late parents, Ralph and Peg.

A veteran of the U.S. Army (Intelligence), though he rarely spoke of experiences, lessons of discipline and dedication were integral and life-long. Two of his sons were duly inspired to follow his example of service, albeit in the U.S. Navy.

As a proud Lewes native, he was often more comfortable at home or on the beach. However, growing up with a mildly itinerant childhood (with time in Pittsburgh & Baltimore, among others), provided him with an appetite for travel, enjoying numerous sea cruises and seizing opportunity to visit his children during their own residences in Tokyo, Stüttgart, New Orleans, San Francisco and New York City, among others.

Words cannot express the gratitude we all have for having been blessed with the opportunity to have known, loved and cared for such a great man. We miss him dearly, but are comforted by the memories of myriad ways his love manifested itself, and the knowledge we'll see him again forever.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 28, at 11:00 AM, at New Covenant Church, 34072 Savannah E Dr., Lewes, where family and friends can visit from 9:30 AM - 11:00 AM.

I was so saddended to hear of Mr Williams passing. My family knew the Williams' from First Baptist Church of Lewes. My Mom would watch Bryan, and Andrew sometimes. I can recall a few get togethers we would have. One being my 5th birthday, when I licked the ice cream scoop, and Mr Willams took my spoon and licked it! Mr Williams was always so kind to my family, and I will never forget him.
