Randall Eugene Gilmer was born on July 6, 1952, in Dayton, Ohio, to Richard and Betty Gilmer. Raised in Lewisburg, Ohio, Randall grew into a man characterized by his profound warmth, his dedication to mentoring others, and his unwavering love for his family. On March 13, 2026, he passed away, leaving behind a rich legacy of kindness, laughter, and countless lives touched.
Randall shared a beautiful life with his beloved wife of over 47 years, Laurie Lea Gilmer. In their younger years, Randall and Laurie traveled the world together, building a foundation of unforgettable shared adventures. Together, they raised two children, Ryan Gilmer and Scott Daniel, and joyfully welcomed their son-in-law, Jonathon Daniel, into the family. Randall’s devotion to his family was unmatched; there was truly nothing he wouldn’t do for the people he loved.
A lifelong educator and mentor, Randall’s professional journey began humbly as a young gas station attendant before he found his true calling in education and athletics. He began his career as a teacher and coach at Lanier High School, followed by a tenure at Spring High School. His adventurous spirit then took his career international, where he served as a teacher and coach for Saudi Aramco in Saudi Arabia.
Upon returning to the States, Randall became the head basketball coach at Jersey Village High School. He went on to leave a lasting mark as the founding head varsity basketball coach at Cy-Springs High School, before spending his final coaching years at Nimitz High School. Even after officially retiring from coaching, his passion for guiding youth never faded; he continued to teach and inspire students at Hall Success Academy until his passing.
Off the court and outside the classroom, Randall was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish and hunt. A true sports enthusiast, he enjoyed playing and watching games, but his greatest joy always came from watching his own children succeed in their chosen athletics. His dedication as a father and a coach beautifully intersected as he spent many rewarding years coaching his son's wheelchair rugby team.
Randall is survived by his siblings, Sharon Cannavino, Rick Gilmer, Kim Gilmer and Kip Gilmer.
Randall was a supportive, nurturing, and giving soul. He cherished the opportunity to reconnect with old friends and former students, always eager to hear about where life had taken them. Known for his wonderful sense of humor, he loved a good laugh—often using it to bring comfort and break the tension, even in uncomfortable situations. Randall will be deeply missed, but his generous spirit will live on in the stories of his family, the lessons he imparted to his players, and the hearts of everyone who was lucky enough to know him.
Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, March 20, 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Klein Funeral Home - Champions, 16131 Champion Forest Dr., Klein, TX, 77379.
